"Both ancient Jewish wisdom and Aristotle recognized the power of the visual image to shape our minds and sculpt our souls. It will not be pleasant to live among people whose only influence has been the lurid concupiscence, leering vulgarity, and sickening violence of contemporary entertainment. For this reason I applaud and support the work of Dr. Glen Griffin and the CAMIE® AWARDS and urge you to do the same. Together we can change the culture," explained Rabbi Daniel Lapin, President, American Alliance of Jews and Christians. Leigh Steinberg is one of the nation's leading sports agents, and was the inspiration behind Tom Cruise's character in the film Jerry Maguire. Leigh has represented over 150 professional athletes over his 33 year career, and he has represented the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft 8 times--that's a record!!!
When he isn't being sports agent extraordinaire, Leigh devotes his time to such humanitarian causes as the Children's Miracle Network, Beating the Odds Foundation, and The Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith.
Movies that project positive messages are very important to Leigh, who says: "I have loved movies since the first time my mother took me as a child to see 'Twelve Angry Men,' and I saw Henry Fonda stand up for what was right. When the theatre darkens and a film lights up the screen a special magic happens. Movies which stress fundamental values like family, character and ethics can inspire our imaginations and trigger imitative behavior. They can teach invaluable life lessons, stimulate our dreams, and make our spirits soar. The CAMIES® play a crucial role in honoring and highlighting those artists who strive to imbue their craft with a higher calling."
The world knows John Schneider best for his starring roles in TV series such as "Smallville," playing the adoptive father of young Clark Kent and "The Dukes of Hazard," playing Bo. And besides being a great counry singer, John has starred in entertaining and uplifting movies such as "You've Got a Friend."
John was a co-founder, with Marie Osmond and Joe Lake, of "The Children's Miracle Network," one of the most successful television telethons in history, providing care for children in 170 hospitals cross the country. But to us, among John Schneider's great accomplishments was propelling CAMIE® AWARDS from a small-time road show into the Hollywood spotlight as the co-host, with Leanza Cornett, of the 2006 and 2007 CAMIE® AWARDS on the stage of the Goldenson Theatre. While introducing the best uplifting shows of those hyears, John convinceingly told the industry and the nation why it's so iimpotant to create and enjoy entertaining movies without offensive content. Then with his guitar, John beautifully sang, "The Impossible Dream,: with ad lib lines about the CAMIE® AWARDS having been an impossible dream that came true. And these are just a few of the reasons John is such a valuable member of the CAMIE® advisory board.
