"UP" is a wild entertaining animated tale about an old guy growing old without his spouse. Imagine growing old without the love of your life. Imagine the trip to South America,for which the two of you had planned and saved for years but never got to take because of life's interruptions. Then imagine developers building tall buildings all around your home. Then in your loneliness, start stretching your imagination.
What if you could solve these problems all at once by filling thousands of balloons with helium and lifting your house away from the construction and life's other problems, so you could sail your house on a dream trip. It might sound silly. It may sound crazy. But imagine as you are up, up and away. Then there's a knock on the door and find an 8-year old boy named Russell who needs to earn his "assisting-the-elderly" badge. You don't want to be bothered but you eventually let Russell come in and become friends. Well, the story moves along from there with a number of adventures including, of course, a good guy who turns out to be not-so-good and machine guns that shoot darts at the good guys and the balloons holding up the house.
That's all we'll say about the plot, but the animation by Pixar is fantastic, probably the best animated film yet made. The musical score is on target. The story is entertaining, even for an old curmudgeon who seldom likes animation or fantasy. Thank you Disney and Pixar and your teams.
