Courageous HeartAnother true story made into a CAMIE® winning film, this one by Hallmark Hall of Fame, was "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler." Unforgettable, inspiring, and true just begin to describe this outstanding motion picture.

This touching true story is about how a woman saved 2500 infants and children in Poland from the Nazi gas chambers during World War II. Irena was able to get in and out of the Warsaw Ghetto because she was the social worker in charge of controlling tuberculosis. She smuggled children out through an old sewer and infants out under her coat or in a suitcase or small coffin using a dog who barked to cover possible cries or whimpers.

This movie was perfectly cast, acted, directed, and filmed. Anna Paquin plays Irena superbly and it would be difficult to equal the directing by many times CAMIE winner, John Kent Harrison or the film editing by another previous CAMIE winner, Henk Van Eeghan. We wish Irena Sendler were here to receive our congratulations along with everyone involved in bringing us her story.
